Charity ball raises £30k in one night
Alex’s Wish funds research into muscle wasting disease
ROTHLEY charity Alex’s Wish is celebrating after raising more than £30,000 - after event costs - at their annual ball.
Zoe Edwards, fund-raising and events manager at Alex’s Wish said: “This was our largest ever ball and the most we have ever raised at our annual ball. We just want to say a huge thank you to our lovely supporters who join us each year as well as those who came along for the very first time.
“We held this year’s event in Nottinghamshire at The Village Hotel because we couldn’t find a venue big enough in Leicestershire to accommodate us all! We would like to thank The Vil- lage Hotel for sponsoring our pre-dinner drinks and for being amazing hosts, as well as B Audio Visual for sponsoring all of the audio visual and room theming, Corporate Motion for producing the video on the night and NEXT Plc for helping cover some of the costs.
“A huge thank you to everyone who donated prizes for our auction, raffle and win-a-holiday including Wonderland Memorabilia who organised our silent auction as well as managed our live auction on the night.”
Guests were welcomed to a Mardi Gras-inspired event complete with Mardi Gras dancers. Andy Miller was the host for the evening and guests were entertained by singer Brendan Green and Likuid Blu.
Emma Hallam, founder of Alex’s Wish and mum to Alex – after whom the charity is named – said: “This event has been a highlight of our year and our fund-raising calendar for many years now and continues to be of huge importance to us.
“To see over 210 people enjoying themselves while raising vital funds for Alex’s Wish was just fantastic.
“Thank you to everyone who joined us and supported us.
“The funds raised will be invested into vital research into finding effective treatments and – ultimately – a cure for this horrible life limiting muscle wasting disease that is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.”
