APPLE IPAD From £319 from apple.com/uk
APPLE’S cheapest iPad is a real winner, all the power the casual user needs for everyday tasks like web browsing, emailing, writing, watching video and listening to music, with power-user features brought by the excellent iOS 12.
Got that? Get this Apple Pencil, £89, apple.com/uk
A CASE is a must, of course, but so is this accessory – even if you don’t draw, it’s almost like the mouse for the tablet. It makes many of the tasks you do easier, and opens up a whole new avenue of creativity. Make sure you get the right one for your iPad though – only the first generation works with the basic iPad, not the most recent release, which is just for the new iPad Pros.
AMAZON FIRE HD 8 From £79.99 from amazon.co.uk
WHAT you get for your money here is extraordinary – a very useable tablet with access to a host of great services from Amazon (including Prime Video if you’re a subscriber, of course). It’s not as nicely-built as a premium tablet, but as far as value for money goes you can’t beat it. Alexa is onboard, too.
Got that? Get this Show Mode Charging Dock, ot available standalone, from £119.98 with Fire HD 8
IF you’re going for a Fire HD 8, you’d be daft not to consider bundling this charging dock with it (you can’t buy it on its own). It effectively turns your tablet into an Echo Show – a smart-home hub with always-on easy access to Alexa.
