Loughborou­gh is happiest town in the East Midlands

Town comes top in Rightmove ‘Happy at Home’ table

LOUGHBOROU­GH has been named one of the happiest places to live in the East Midlands.

Out of 10 places Loughborou­gh came top , with Burton, Derby, Leicester and Nottingham making up the rest of the top five..

Chesterfie­ld and Mansfield came bottom of the Rightmove Happy at Home 2018 table.

Nationally Loughborou­gh is the 65th happiest place in the country, while Leicester comes 119th.

Leigh-on-Sea in Essex, Farnham in Surrey, Monmouth in Wales, Christchur­ch in Dorset and Leamington in Warwickshi­re made up the national top five

More than 21,000 people across Great Britain took part in the Rightmove survey, which asks residents how happy they are where they live, as well as asking them to rank 12 happiness factors.

The 12 factors range from how safe residents feel and how friendly the neighbours are, to how good the local services are and the quality of green spaces and cultural activities in the area.

According to Rightmove most of the sales in Loughborou­gh over the past year were semidetach­ed properties which on average sold for £195,206.

Terraced properties had an average price of £155,274 and detached properties averaged at £304,366.

Loughborou­gh, with an overall average price of £200,818, was cheaper than nearby Hathern (£229,500), Quorn (£344,674) and Woodhouse Eaves (£361,952).

In the past year house prices in Loughborou­gh were similar to the year before and 11% up on 2015 when they averaged at £181,466.
