‘Inside/Out’ is theme for ArtSpace exhibition

-

MEMBERS of ArtSpace Loughborough are putting on an exhibition titled ‘Inside/Outside’ at the Sock Gallery inside Loughborough Town Hall from January 10 to February 23.

ArtSpace is a group of 25 Charnwood visual artists - painters, printmakers, sculptors, mixed media and digital artists - who exhibit widely and also meet to discuss their work.

ArtSpace was founded 21 years ago by a group of graduates from Loughborough College of Art and Design (now Loughborough University) who wanted to discuss work and organise exhibitions and workshops. Over the years, many artists have been members.

The exhibition will have mostly paintings, drawings, mixed media and digital work. Exhibitors were encouraged to interpret ‘Inside/Outside’ in their own way to show how inner and outer worlds connect. Exhibitors were also encouraged to have their own choice of media.

There are works that are literal contrasts between interiors and outside as seen through a window or doorway. A number of artists show the ‘outside’ world in landscapes, but some artists hint at the possible conflict between nature and the manmade environment.

Some work focuses on private creative thinking in relation to the bigger world, or the artists have chosen to think about the contrast between our inner lives and the self we present to other people.

The gallery is open every day, except Sunday, from 9am to 5pm.
