CENTRE STAGE WHODUNNIT PRODUCTION. The ‘seriously funny’ (Sunday Mirror) Leicester-based comic, poet and psychiatric nurse Rob Gee strikes storytelling gold with his smart, dark and very witty comedy-theatre crime show set on a dementia ward.

Jim’s wife has died from what appears to be natural causes. Jim is a retired police detective and he smells a rat.

He’s determined to solve one last murder. The problem is he also has dementia. It’s a case worthy of the greatest detective mind. But his will have to do.

By turns hilarious comedy and thought-provoking drama, this is a one-man triumph; part social commentary, part black comedy, part Cluedo and 100 per cent entertaining.

While Rob is now a full-time writer he was previously a registered psychiatric nurse.

The NHS (including the Leicestershire NHS) is now using the show to help train healthcare staff in the area of compassion and ethics. So Rob has achieved the rare feat of combining serious and upsetting subject matter with comedy and great skill, producing a highly entertaining piece of theatre. Rob says: “For everyone who says, “I don’t want to see this, my dad had Alzheimer’s”, you tend to have two others saying “I really want to see this, my dad had Alzheimer’s.” And all of them are talking about it.”

The show will take place on Friday, January 25, starting at 7.30 in Humphrey Perkins Community Centre, Cotes Road, Barrow upon Soar, LE12 8JA.

Tickets are available by Paypal or card from www. busca.org.uk or, from Barrow’s Flower Shop or the library.

Bought in advance, full price costs £10, concessions £9 and students in full time education £5.

If you buy on the door they cost another £1 per ticket. There will be a full bar, easy disabled facilities and plenty of parking.

SILEBY METHODIST CHURCH. Happy New Year everyone! Well it’s back to the usual routine and I can tell you that we had a wonderful Christingle service on December 23, when so many people came that we had to get extra chairs out.

It was so lovely to see families with young children and babies enjoying themselves and Granville gave us a very good service with Martin on the cd player Refreshments were served afterwards.

Many thanks to everyone who attended and to all who worked to make it such a success.

On Sunday, December 30, Margaret Williams was our preacher and it was a thought provoking address concerning refugees.

Of course, our Lord Jesus was a refugee and his family were forced to flee to Egypt to escape the wrath of Herod. Sadly there are still many folk in the same predicament today. Terry played the piano for us and we are so grateful for his imput.

There was no Cafe@Chapel last week but we will reopen on Thursday, January 10, that’s this week and we do look forward to seeing you and hearing about your holiday. Our hours are 9.30am -11am.

Sunday, 6th January, saw Rob Newton bringing the word of God to our service at 10.45am. He brought along his guitar and Janet played the piano for three of the hymns with Rob playing for two unfamiliar hymns on his guitar.

The hymns he chose had very powerful messages in themselves and they emphasised his sermon which again concerned refugees. It is such a sad fact that in our world there are so many people who are in such distress that they feel unable to remain in their own countries.

Next week we look forward to the visit of Eleri Bristow for our Sunday service at 10.45am
