FOUR FESTIVALS FROM QUAD

-

QUAD in Derby has announced dates for four major festivals in 2019.

FORMAT International Photography Festival starts on Friday, March 15, and runs until Sunday, April 14.

You can take your seat for Paracinema, a film festival dedicated to genres outside the mainstream, from Friday, May 3, until Monday, May 6.

And finally brighten a dark November with Derby Film Festival Premiere screenings, special guests, talks and events – running from Thursday, November 14, to Sunday, November 17.

FORMAT, established in 2004, features contemporary and archive photography. This year’s theme is “Forever/now” exploring our attachment to the idea of forever and how we seek to represent our everchanging world, society, lands and histories through photography.

The festival kicks off with the FORMAT19 Conference, on Friday, March 15, when highprofile international speakers, artists, writers and academics will explore and discuss this year’s themes.

On Saturday, March 16, from 9.30am to 4pm, over 50 international expert reviewers will undertake the annual international photography portfolio review while FORMAT Photobook Market, runs from Friday, March 15, to Sunday, March 17.

Three exhibitions will be on display in QUAD Galleries from Friday, March 15, until Sunday, June 9. Mutable, Multiple, in QUAD Gallery One, features six artists – Max Pinckers, Edgar Martins, Stefanie Moshammer, Amani Willett, Anne Golaz and Virginie Rebetez with photographic works that challenge modes of documentary and storytelling, while in Gallery Two you’ll find the UK premiere and new commission by the Japanese-born, Venice-based artist Kensuke Koike. Over in QUAD Extra Gallery Spaces, FORMAT FOREVER//NOW (Open Call) shows work from a group of photographers and artists selected via an international open call.

From horror, sci-fi and fantasy to exploring other genres and sub-genres that don’t usually get the opportunity to play on the big screen. Paracinema was launched in 2018 as a subsection to Derby Film Festival but due to its success has launched into an event of its own. in this new and exciting addition to QUAD’s range of festivals.

Summer Nights is a festival of outdoor film screenings in heritage locations throughout the summer. Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey and Hardwick Hall are among the Derbyshire venues of this year’s festival. Presented by QUAD on an inflatable 12-metre screen, the festival offers the chance to enjoy a unique open air cinematic experience in some stunning venues.

The film theme continues with the Derby Film Festival. Now in its sixth year, the festival includes premiere screenings, special guests, talks and events. Past guests have included Sir John Hurt, Sir Ben Kingsley, Sir Christopher Frayling, Brian Blessed, Carol Cleveland,
