Plough Sunday service at Oaks in Charnwood
A SPECIAL church service is being held in Oaks in Charnwood, on Sunday, January 13, at 4pm, where Rev Lydia Humphreys will preside and Bishop Guli Frances-Dehqani, the First Bishop of Loughborough, will deliver the sermon.
St James the Greater Church, Oaks Road is upholding the tradition of celebrating Plough Sunday with the service, which will be followed by refreshments in the Oaks Storer Hall
Plough Sunday is a service of prayer, dedication and blessings for all of those involved in agriculture and with the countryside. It also includes everyone who relies upon the dedication of the farming community
Two of the Brothers from Mount St. Bernard’s Abbey, will also be attending, one of whom will be “Reading on of the Lessons’.
The local farmers traditionally bring the plough forward for a blessing.
The Plough is normally loaned for the service by parish councillor, Coun Michael Froggatt.
