Severn Trent scheme being considered by authority

TWO new pipelines are being planned to attach to bridges in Zouch as part of a scheme to connect dozens of homes in the village to the sewer system for the first time.

Severn Trent Water Ltd is planning to install two short sections of above ground pipeline on both the Mill Bridge, which connects Main Street to Upper and Lower Holme, and on the Upper Holme Bridge which leads over the River Soar to the island of Upper Holme.

An application has been submitted to Nottinghamshire County Council for consideration.

In the accompanying design and access statement, Severn Trent Water said: “These works are being undertaken as part of a wider scheme seeking to provide first time sewerage connection to 38 properties in Zouch following the successful grant of an application under the Water Industry Act 1991.

“The wider scheme involves the installation of a new vacuum sewer from the village of Zouch to the Hathern Green Hill Rise Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) which is to be extended.

“This application comprises one of three applications submitted to facilitate the proposed scheme. An application for the extension of the Hathern Green Hill Rise SPS and associated access works has been submitted to Leicestershire County Council, and an application for the installation of an above ground pipe bridge to be attached to the A6006 road bridge has been submitted to Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire County Council jointly.”

The bridges provide pedestrian and vehicular access onto and off the islands.

The report explained that it was necessary to install the proposed pipeline above ground at the proposed level so that once the new bridge has been built, the new vacuum sewer can be connected to the pipeline that will be built into the bridge deck.

As such, this application is seeking consent for the installation of a section of above ground pipe on a temporary basis until the construction of the new Zouch bridge is complete and the new section of subterranean pipeline can be connected.
