New members are sought for Quorn Phoenix group

-

WITH preparations now underway for their 2019 programme, Quorn Phoenix Entertainers are on the lookout for new members.

The group, which has been a feature of village life for several decades, is once again hosting two fun shows at Quorn Village Hall this year.

First up is the Summer Show which takes place on the evenings of Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18.

This is due to feature songs from iconic musicals through the years and is sure to provoke happy memories and a feel-good factor.

Later in the year the dates for this year’s pantomime are Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23. This will include a matinee performance on the Saturday.

The Entertainers are busy following up their three presentations of Mrs Crusoe’s Island which played to enthusiastic Village Hall audiences last November.

The Friday night, in particular, was a riot of laughter and fun, some of it scheduled, the rest spontaneous and all the funnier for it. This was a show adapted by Murray Holt and directed by Marlene Frisby.

Sharon Lodge added much valued gravitas and natural acting flair in the lead role of Mrs Crusoe.

She was principally supported

by Karl Allen and John Brindley as her much different sons, Robinson and Simon respectively and Mandy Allen, as Poly.

Steve Winning provided unpredictable comic abilities as Man Friday with his granddaughter Elliot highlighting there’s room too in the group for more youthful talent as Bosun Smee.

John Spencer looked rather suited for comfort to the role as the drunken Captain Eyepatch.

Among those discovering new abilities were Shelagh Collier taking a prominent speaking part after breaking the ice in last year’s Sensational Seventies music and comedy show and Pauline Parkes

who partnered Steve Winning in a duet.

Sue Booles had the unenviable task of keeping the pirates in line with Marcia Hewitt, who again demonstrated her much-loved singing ability, Ann Lewis, Jenny Winning, Gill and Vernon Merrick and Sharon Cursley keeping her on her toes.

Last but certainly not least, the audience also enjoyed the timeless Reg Winning in his role as the artist.

Eleanor Hall, Sam Hall and Will Drew were in charge of the lighting and sound and Mick Frisby and Mark Kenny were the stage crew. Thanks also go to Jenny

Garness and Angela Barratt for their invaluable work behind the scenes.

Newcomers are sought for both stage roles and other areas of a production.

Previous experience is not necessary rather a willingness to commit to Tuesday night rehearsals from 7.30pm and join in the fun. You are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome.

Tickets for the shows are £7 for adults and £3 for children.
