FIRST TERM FLEW BY. Sutton Bonington Primary School head teacher Mr Lee Shilton says his first term there really flew by, admitting it has been an absolute pleasure to work with the children, staff and parents. In a message to parents, he says there were many highlights and wonderful activities going on throughout the year and the teachers have worked tirelessly. The run up to Christmas had been a busy on. “The children have excelled themselves in their Christmas productions and other activities. We were all incredibly proud of their performances. We are all looking forward to an opportunity to recharge our batteries.”
Mr Shilton said the last term had seen them having, sadly, to say goodbye to Miss Audrey Leeson, their Year 4 teacher and deputy Headteacher, who had been in post for the past 24 years. He has described her record as a fabulous achievement, adding that the whole Sutton Bonington community wished to thank her for her commitment and continuous effort over this time.
He comments on the ‘wonderful goodbye assembly and tea party’ ---which the Echo reported on fully -- for Miss Leeson where current children, parents and staff joined former friends and colleagues to give Miss Leeson the send off she thoroughly deserved.
Mr Shilton said his deputy had commented how much she loved and appreciated the event and how much she will miss everyone. “I personally wish to thank Miss Leeson for helping me to settle into the role as Headteacher and my only regret is that I wish our partnership could have lasted for longer. I wish her well in her retirement and I know she will be sorely missed.”
The head teacher has thanked everybody for the generous contributions of cakes, money and gifts for Miss Leeson, saying she had especially enjoyed her brand new sewing machine which was presented to her.
Miss Leeson led her last assembly on the final afternoon before the Christmas break and where the new Head teacher observed his first ever Australian version of ’12 days of Christmas’ - which he said he had discovered is embedded firmly in Sutton Bonington tradition!
