WARM tributes have been paid to a Loughborough Foxes footballer who has passed away suddenly at the age of 25.

Molly Webb had been suffering flu like symptoms for several days and her condition deteriorated rapidly Sunday afternoon (January 6) when she passed away.

The shock news prompted messages of condolences on social media to the family and club from football teams up and down the country.

Originally from Shepshed and a former Loughborough College student, Molly then became an apprentice teacher working at Loughborough C of E school. She had recently just qualified and started working in the prison service.

She had been a member of the Loughborough Foxes football club since the age of 13 and was captain of the Vixens team, the manager of the U12s team and a member of the club’s committee.

The club’s director of football Steve Wilkinson said the club would not be the same without her.

“Molly was a joy to spend time with; she was vibrant, enthusiastic, a motivator and someone you want in your team whatever the situation. Molly spent most of her teenage years and early adulthood as part of Loughborough Foxes where she played junior and senior football, was a key fundraiser, coached several junior teams while also being a key decision maker behind the scenes.

“The out pouring of grief for the family and Molly’s Foxes family has brought comfort to everyone who knew her.

“The huge number of messages on social media and the fact that clubs throughout the country, had a minutes silence or a minutes applause over the weekend, highlights the recognition Molly had within the football world and the impact she had on everyone who came into contact with her.”

Molly’s family said: “On behalf of the family we would like to thank you all for your heartfelt support and beautiful messages which are comforting at this difficult time.

“We really appreciate how much everyone recognises Molly’s wonderful nature, kind and caring soul which will leave a lasting impact on everyone who was blessed to know her.”

At the time of going to press, no funeral date has yet been confirmed.
