A SERIES of open days at Shepsed fire station held in a bid to recuit on-call firefighters have been hailed a big success.

More than 20 people attended the open days over a three day period. Participants were welcomed to the station and formally introduced to crew managers and firefighters which allowed participants to ask questions and put a face to the staff who supported them through their application process.

Attendees then had a tour of the station allowing them to view the facilities and understand a little more about Shepshed’s fire station and the appliances, a pumping appliance and command support vehicle both crewed by on call firefighters 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

A spokesman said: “We would like to say a huge thank you the community of Shepshed for supporting our recent recruitment campaign.

“We have had several peple apply and the applications will be reviewed and successful applicants will be invited back for formal interviews very soon.

“All successful recruits will go on to receive high quality training and transferable skills including: first aid, trauma training and fire safety. Being an on call firefighter is a really rewarding job and we look forward to introducing Shepshed to their latest firefighter recruits very soon.”
