Societ enjoys interesting talk
MEMBERS of Sileby
Photographic Society were entertained by guest lecturer, Vin Scothern, DPAGB, AFIAP, BPE4*, PPSA, at the meeting held on Monday, January 28.
Vin presented digital images under the title ‘From the Other Side of the Fence’ and wherever Vin travelled, his Nikon camera was never far behind.
Combining his interests and hobbies with his photographic expertise provided a wide range of material for his camera, and many of his projected images had achieved award winning recognition when entered for national competitions.
His love of sport was well represented in superb images, both monochrome and colour, whilst visiting events up and down the country. With an eye for detail and technical know-how, close-up shots of individual athletes and participants competing in team events provided great viewing.
Vin knew what he was looking for and took the opportunity when it arose to create some stunning pictures.
He had often been able to capture competitors’ facial expressions too, which told their own story when reflecting the determination and effort to succeed by those with a true competitive spirit.
Images captured on camera when attending team and individual events including water sports, motor cross, speedway, rugby, football, lacrosse, tennis, equestrian, and others, were well represented, and behind each one there was a fascinating story to be told.
After the refreshment break, Vin projected a selection of images which he had successfully entered in national competitions and, as to be expected, resulted in further qualifications to add to his list of photographic achievements.
A change of theme to conclude his presentation included a selection of images captured on camera whilst out and about.
Landscapes, people and wildlife provided Vin with great opportunities to prove his photographic capabilities in other areas.
Visits to the Scottish highlands and islands provided superb images, as did a selection depicting individuals dressed for a bygone era at re-enactment events.
Stunning images of birdlife reflecting their daily habits highlighted the beauty of these wonderful creatures, many boasting colourful plumage and vast wing spans when in flight.
Feeding themselves never seemed to be too much of a problem, with gorgeous pictures of a puffin with little space left in its mouth to hold even one more fish.
Vin was obviously a master of his trade and had certainly earned his stripes.
His keen interest and experience gathered over many years had resulted in great examples of his work and his enthusiasm for photography in all its forms had been well rewarded.
Patrick Crowhurst thanked Vin for allowing superb examples of his digital images covering many subject to be shared with those present resulting in an evening of great photography.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 11, when Richard Storier, one of the Society’s own members, will entertain with an ‘Evening of his Choice’.
Visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to attend the Society’s meetings which commence at 7.45pm for 8pm, and are held at Sileby Community Centre.
