Town swimmers on form at county championships
WEEKEND three of the Leicestershire and Rutland County Championships and once again Loughborough Town SC swimmers were on top form winning a hatful of medals.
The first event was the boys 50m backstroke and the Club was represented in five out of the six finals. Finlay Gibson won silver in the 10/11 yrs age group and Thomas Macmanard also took silver in the 12 yrs final. Jack Goldfinch placed eighth in the 13yrs final whilst Sean McCann swam to victory in the 14yrs event. Thomas Chamberlain finished 4th in the 15 yrs final.
In the girl’s 100m butterfly, Elizabeth Palfrey took gold in the 10/11 years age group whilst Abbie Ruddle finished second in the 16 years and over event. Mia Larke (17) also finished second in the 200m breaststroke. These swimmers also achieved top eight positions in the 200m Individual Medley with Elizabeth finishing in second place, Mia in 4th and Abbie in 7th.
In the 200m backstroke, further medals were won with Sean McCann in first place, Thomas Chamberlain in second and Thomas Macmanard finishing in third place in their respective age groups. Sean and Thomas also placed second and third in the Junior (15 & under) category in this event. Will Stone was sixth in the 16 years and over age group and Bhavesh Parmessur placed seventh in the 13 yrs category. Finlay Gibson finished fourth in the 200m freestyle, Thomas Macmanard - sixth and Willem Muddimer (14 yrs age group) placed eighth.
In the girls 1500m freestyle Francesca Palfrey (13 yrs) and Peta Jarvis (16 yrs and over) each took bronze, both swimming faster than their previous best times by over one minute. Will Bell (17) took gold in the 800m freestyle with George Larke (15 yrs) and Will Stone (16 yrs and over) placing 5th and 6th in their age groups. Elaine Seager and Justin Palfrey both placed 8th in the 16 yrs and over age group in their respective events.
Other Loughborough Town swimmers competing in the Championships this weekend were Toby James, Alfie Molloy, Harrison Cook, James Lake, Leo Mochel, Sandy Jarvis, Imogen Sherman, Niamh Muddimer and Hattie Smith. The championships conclude next weekend at Braunstone Leisure Centre.
