Peter and Pamela celebrate Diamond milestone on Valentine’s Day!
A BURTON ON Wolds couple celebrated a special milestone on Valentine’s Day - their 60th wedding anniversary!
Peter and Pamela Harrison met through a mutual friend, started playing badminton together at Burton on the Wolds badminton club and three and a half years later were married at Ashby Road Methodist Church in Loughborough.
Peter was a farm labourer and Pamela worked at Petters in Burton on the Wolds and for the first four years of their marriage they lived in a caravan on the farm that Peter was working on before moving to a cottage on Barrow Road in Burton for two years and then on to a house also on Barrow Road that they still live in today.
Peter went on to work for Ladybird Books until it closed while Pamela worked as a secretary at Yeates the coach builders in Loughborough.
They had one son Simon, two daughters Julie and Rachel, and also have two step grandchildren Leah and Jamie.
Youngest daughter Rachel said: “They’ve both always been active and played tennis and badminton, and even coached both for a while. They were both made life members of the village tennis club.
“Mum still does a bit to help my uncle’s business as a ledgers clerk – a company my grandpa started with his friend after the war and she has also recently taken up circuit training.
“Dad is still active, whether it’s gardening or crafting something or helping with conservation schemes in the village wood. He enjoys going to the odd football match with the next door neighbour, and we both enjoy time together at Trent Bridge watching Nottinghamshire.”
Pamela said they enjoyed a special lunch for their Diamond anniversary and then family and friends had a special meal with them on Sunday.
And the recipe for a long and happy marriage?
“We enjoy each other’s company, share the same interests and have a good laugh,” said Pamela.
