HOW EDDY & THE CARNIVAL Nottingham

HUW Eddy & The Carnival play the Bodega in Nottingham on Thursday, March 7. We caught up with them.

How would you describe your sound?

At the core our music is honest heart-on-yoursleeve, inhibitions-to-the-wind folk music, layered with indie rock and soulful overtones. Think The Waterboys rubbing shoulders with The Coral and The Black Keys.

What inspires your music?

Writing songs that will make at least one person in the room feel a strong emotion and connection with the music is the most important inspiration. Capturing a moment both live and on records is also what drives us. Of course, love, heartache, the struggle of youth and having no money, feeling confused by life inspires a lot of the subject matter.

Can you give us some background about your latest release?

Our debut EP, Malflourished, came out in November and we like to think it was a representation of raw feelings.

What do you like most about touring?

What we LOVE the most is meeting people and playing to new faces and making an impact on people We also like laughing at each other’s terrible humour and our bassist Mak would probably say his favourite thing is the trips to Greggs on the motorway.

What can people expect from your upcoming Nottingham gig?

Dancing, passionate singing, revelry, drinking and everyone beaming from ear to ear.

What are you enjoying listening to at the moment?

We are loving bands like Cage The Elephant, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Jade Bird and check out up and coming singer-songwriter Ramona Rose!

What’s been your best live gig appearance as a performer?

There have been quite a few stand outs for us but highlights would include, BoomTown last summer and appearances at festivals over in France and Holland. It was also very special to join Natalia Tena’s Molotov Jukebox on their UK tour in September!

The band play Bodega Nottingham, Thursday, March 7. Tickets: £8.80 inc fees from www. bodeganottingham.com and 0115 950 5078
