County success for swim club

LOUGHBOROU­GH Town swimmers were in action at the weekend as the Leicesters­hire and Rutland Swimming Championsh­ips concluded at Braunstone.

Individual gold medals went to Sean McCann (14 years) in the 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle. He also took bronze in the 50m freestyle. Thomas Macmanard swam to first position in the 12 years 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle and was also 4th in the 100m Individual Medley and 7th in the 400m freestyle. Elizabeth Palfrey (11 years) won gold in the 400m freestyle and was also third in the 50m backstroke and 5th in the 50m freestyle.

Lucy Sharp (17), won silver in the 16 years and over 50m freestyle and was also in the 100m Individual Medley and was 5th in the 50m backstroke. Finlay Gibson (11 years) took silver in the 100m backstroke and 100m Individual Medley, he was also third in the 200m breaststro­ke and 4th in the 50m freestyle.

Bronze medals went to Willem Muddimer (14 years) in the 200m breaststro­ke and he was also fourth in the 100m Individual Medley and 7th in the 50m freestyle. Mia Larke (17) was third in the 100m Individual Medley and 7th in both the 50m freestyle and 400m freestyle. Thomas Chamberlai­n achieved his first ever regional qualifying time, winning a bronze medal in the 15 years 100m backstroke – he was also 7th in the 100m Individual Medley event.

Swimmers achieving top eight placings were: Joshua Ley-Sneyd (16 & over) 4th in 200m breaststro­ke with Sandy Jarvis 5th in the same event. Sandy was also 4th in the 400m free- style. Francesca Palfrey 8th in the 13 years 400m freestyle, Hattie Smith, 7th in the 15 years age group and Peta Jarvis 8th in the 16 years and over event. Will Stone, 8th in the 16 years and over 400m freestyle. Amelie McCann, 6th in the 14yrs 50m backstroke. Abbie Ruddle, 4th in the 50m backstroke and 5th in the 50m freestyle. Alfie Molloy, 8th in the 12yrs 50m freestyle.

The last weekend of the Championsh­ips also saw the presentati­ons for the overall age group positions. Both Elizabeth Palfrey and Finlay Gibson finished second in the 11 years age group. Thomas Macmanard was 5th in the 12-year-old boys and Willem Muddimer 7th in the 14-year category.

Abbie Ruddle (15) won the Edna Warner Trophy for the fastest female, over the four 50m events whilst Will Stone, also 15, won the Chris White trophy for the fastest male over the four 100m events plus the 200m Individual Medley throughout the Championsh­ips.
