LOUGHBOROUGH’S Blazing Glory Scooter Club has unveiled ‘Reverse Rett’ as its chosen charity for its annual birthday fund-raiser later this month.

The 34th birthday bash on September 28 will feature two events, a scooter ride-out, barbecue and music at The White Hart in Quorn from 12pm-7pm followed by an event at The Carillion Rooms in Loughborough from 8pm-1am, where a selection of renowned DJs from the UK scooter scene will be entertaining revellers.

Blazing Glory Scooter Club leader Sean Sex said: “We’ve known David Wainwright and his wife Louise for a long time.

“We’ve also followed closely the battles their daughter Georgia has with Rett Syndrome on Facebook. That is why we decided to choose Reverse Rett as the charity we wish to support on September 28th.”

Nine-year-old Georgia Wainwright was diagnosed with the genetic disorder Rett Syndrome in December 2013, following a near 18-month investigation into her developmental delay by Doctors, Specialists and Geneticists at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Georgia’s dad David Wainwright said: “Georgia has a lovely easygoing nature which has helped her and the family deal with the difficulties she faces on daily basis with Rett Syndrome.

“But at the same time, you always worry that her condition could deteriorate at any time.

“The Rett community in the UK is a close one and girls we have known that are Georgia’s age have tragically passed away due to the health problems the condition can cause,” he added.

Reverse Rett was founded in 2009 by Andy and Rachael Stevenson who both have daughters with the condition.

The charity carries out work into medical research, looking into reversing the effects of Rett Syndrome.

All the money raised is completely self-funded, with no help from the government.

Georgia’s mum Louise was full of praise for Blazing Glory’s event: “We can’t thank Sean, Dave and all the lads enough for their support.

“When they all came on their scooters to the house to be photographed with her, Georgia was really beaming despite not feeling very well that morning.”
