Man in River Soar search is safe
A CHRISTMAS Day police
report confirmed that a man, who was believed to
be in the River Soar, was
safe and well.
A major search
operation was launched after a person reportedly
fell or jumped into the
water on Sunday, December 22, at Mountsorrel.
The search was called off on Christmas Eve after three days when emergency services teams found no trace of the person.
But in a statement published on Christmas Day itself Leicestershire Police said officers had
“completed their inquiries”.
A report was received at 5.15pm on Sunday, December 22, from a member of the public who saw a light, which was described as looking like a head torch, and then the person falling into the river.
In a statement, the force said: “Earlier this week a search of the river was carried out by police with assistance from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue
Service and Water Safe UK.
“Following further enquiries the person who
entered the water has been identified and has confirmed he is safe and well.
“The call was made with good intent and officers thanked the public for their assistance while the searches were ongoing.”
