Police offer tips after a spate of parcel thefts in the area

-

POLICE have offered advice to residents following a spate of parcel thefts in Charnwood.

PCSO Lucinda Bailey said: “We have been made aware of an increase in unattended parcel thefts across the Charnwood area.

“Whilst we would always recommend that delivery drivers don’t leave parcels in insecure locations, there are a number of steps that you could take to reduce the risk of having a parcel stolen.”

She offered tips if you are unlikely to be home when a parcel is due for delivery:

• Install external CCTV cameras –

These are a great deterrent however will not provide the same level of security as some of our other tips

• Install a Video doorbell – This would

allow you to speak with the person trying to deliver your parcel to advise them of a secure location or trusted neighbour with whom they can leave the parcel

• Install a parcel security box outside of your home.

Once a parcel has been placed inside a

security box they usually require a key or

a code to be inserted to open them

• Reschedule a parcel to arrive when

someone is home

• Redirect a parcel to your place of

work if your employer is okay with this

• Have your parcel delivered to a collection point .

DPD, UPS and Hermes are just a few of

the companies which have collection points around the area

• Have your parcel delivered to an

intelligent parcel locker.

Amazon have a number of these located across Loughborough at the Carillon Court Shopping Centre, Morrison’s supermarket and on the university campus.

She added: “Please be vigilant, Should you notice anyone acting suspiciously in your neighbourhood please report this to us.”
