New book by BBC journalist
BBC journalist and former Loughborough University student Jo Healey has published a new book entitled ‘Trauma Reporting: A Journalist’s Guide to Covering Sensitive Stories’.
The book offers good practice for reporters, sharing insight from news correspondents and their interviewees.
The alumna, a senior news journalist for the BBC, wrote the book after developing the BBC Academy’s in-house training programme for journalists on how best to work with emotionally vulnerable contributors.
For more than 30 years, Jo has specialised in telling highly sensitive stories through newspaper, radio and television. Some have involved the conflicts in Northern Ireland, the Gulf Wars, Iraq, Afghanistan and terrorist attacks.
Jo has also covered stories on mass deaths and disasters, as well as stories of addiction, murder, abuse, mental health and imprisonment.
She has received several high-profile endorsements, including from documentary maker Louis Theroux (who also shares his expertise in the book).
Jo graduated in 1984 with a degree in English and drama.
