Extra donation of £5,000 made to the toy appeal

THE ever-deserving Charnwood Christmas Toy Appeal which sees under privileged children given presents they otherwise wouldn’t be able to receive, has been given a £5,000 donation by The Sun national newspaper.

The appeal is a charity that is run purely by a handful of volunteers and 100 per cent of the money raised goes to Charnwood children. These children are referred to the appeal by a number of organisations.

And, as part of a Christmas charity initiative the Sun chose the appeal to receive the donation

Ruth Townsend of the appeal said that she started shaking when she found out about the donation because that’s how much the money meant to the organisation.

She said “All gifts are for our under privileged children in the Charnwood area and are referred to us by a service, eg Social Services, Women’s Aid, Tenancy Support and many more.

“Last year we supplied gifts to 533 children.

“All gifts need to be brand new as this is often the only gift that the children get.”

The gifts are for children are aged between 0 - 16 years.

Charnwood Borough Council offices (Southfields), Natwest Bank, Market Place, Loughborough, Newton Fallowell, Swan Street, Loughborough have all been helping once again this year, as collection points and storage for the toy donations.

Ruth added that with the help of the donation the charity was now going to start shopping for in the January sales.
