Tech message play
PERFORMING arts students from Loughborough College have delivered a hard-hitting message on the impact of new technology on young people.
‘Our Generation’ was created by the students with a trio of performances reflecting the damage caused by social media attacks, such as trolling, the effects of people creating an online appearance that does not quite reflect reality and, finally, how a constant interaction with devices is making it harder to connect in person .
“We asked our students to devise a performance on the impact of new technology on human behaviour and development and almost without hesitation they all ran with it in the direction of social media.
“Clearly from their point of view this is a big thing in their lives, so it was an obvious way in for them to explore these issues,” said Loughborough College performing arts lecturer Emma Ledsam.
“The actors certainly looked at the negative experiences of day to day life lived through digital platforms. But they also showed the positive benefits, such as the connections people make online that help them find support and develop relationships.
“The students created a complex story but the whole cast really stepped up and the messages in their performance really hit home with the audience.”
The cast of Our Generation were: Charlie Cound, Kai-Ellis Deidrick, Emilia Evans, Grace Holbrook, AJ Karami, Ethan King, Rosie Lyttle-Wright, Ella McDonald, Harriet Myers, Jaden Pick and Max Skiera.
