Best: Apple Watch Series 5 (From £399 at apple. com/uk) If you want a smart watch, Apple’s is just the best device on the market. And though its success may be dwarfed by the success of the iPhone, it might surprise you that Apple Watch alone is now a bigger business for Apple than the iPod ever was. A smash hit and an excellent health tracker, as well as a simple device to help you stop using your phone too much. A winner.

Honourable mention: Withings Move (From £59.95 at withings.com/ uk) Withings has had an odd few years – making a big noise in personal health tracking before being bought by Nokia three years ago and ruinously rebranded as Nokia health. Founder Éric Carreel bought the company back last year, re-rebranded to Withings and continued the good work he started, making great and simple health tracking watches that don’t do much else than that, apart from telling the time.
