WORK costing £160,000 to replace the old water pipes in the Outwoods Road area of Loughborough was due to start this week

The £160,000 Severn Trent work is due to last around nine weeks.

Shannon Currall, community officer for Severn Trent told the Echo: “We really want our customers to have a water supply that they can rely on.

“Following a history of burst pipes in the area, and the inconvenience that caused for the local community, we’ve made the decision to invest £160,000 to replace the whole section of pipes.

“We’re going to be replacing the old, brittle pipes with brand new plastic pipes that are much more reliable, and the work has been planned in a way that gives the local community the least amount of inconvenience.

“Our plan is to renew nearly a kilometre of water pipes in total, and we expect that to take around nine weeks.”

The work was set to begin on the junction of Valley Road and Pantain Road, moving up towards Outwoods Road, along Outwoods Drive and finishing on the junction of Outwoods Drive and Beacon Road.

Severn Trent says that to keep both the local people and the workers safe, temporary traffic lights will be used at the beginning on the junction of Valley Road and Pantain Road, and again at the junction of Outwoods Drive and Beacon Road.

“Traffic management will be minimal at all other times, where there will be cones and barriers only.”

Shannon added: “We know that this work may mean a little bit of inconvenience for the local community, and we’d like to apologise to anyone who will be affected, and to ask for their patience.

“Once this work is complete, the area will have a modern, reliable water network that will last for generations.”
