Quiz night for heritage group
THE members of the Mountsorrel Heritage Group finished 2019 with their annual quiz night at the Mountsorrel Memorial Centre where they also enjoyed a well stocked buffet and took part in a Christmas raffle.
The evening was the conclusion of an extremely busy year that saw the group undertake two successful archaeological test pits in the Castle Gardens and they also opened a village museum in the room above the library.
In one of the test pits they excavated they discovered a significant amount of broken pottery, this was cleaned and put on display at the museum.
After a visit from Peter Liddle a well known local archaeologist two members of the group decided to reconstruct some of the pottery.
They discovered that there was at least two “Tankards “these have now been 80 per cent rebuilt and after some research it they were found to be Staffordshire Mottled ware possibly from the Stone Bank Pottery in Stoke on Trent and probably dating back to the 1600s

The talk will take place at the Mountsorrel Memorial Centre at 7.30pm on January 14 commencing at 7.30pm. Everyone welcome Admission is £3 members and £4 for visitors
