LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN

MEN’S 3RD XI 2 LEICESTER MEN’S 1ST XI 4 AFTER THE Christmas break Loughborough Town 3rd XI opened up the second half of the season at home to Leicester 1st XI, who were just below them in the table.

This was also the first game for Jaimin Metcalf and Elliott Crocker playing against their former team.

Town didn’t start the game well, as Leicester dominated play pinning the home side in their own half. This pressure paid dividends as they opened up the scoring for an early lead.

After weathering the early storm Town started to gain some possession and started to move the ball around creating some half chances which couldn’t be converted. However, another decent Leicester attack resulted in the away side doubling their lead.

Leicester looked the better side and surely would have taken the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Town had other ideas and got back into the game with Arun Mistry finishing from close range after a good counter attack.

Going into the second half, Town looked to get that early goal to draw level but again the away side got the vital goal to go 3-1 up.

Town fought back and started to create some good chances but again these chances weren’t capitalised on. Finally, the breakthrough came as Kayla Mistry fired home to bring the home side back within one goal.

Whilst Town continued to press for goals it wasn’t too be. The final goal of the game went to Leicester through a penalty flick, having it being awarded after the Leicester attacker was fouled by the Town’s keeper.

A tough result for Town to take though now having played all teams, they sit in 7th place with 15 points, which is much better than where they were in the table last year.

Next game Town travel to 4th place Melton which will be a tough game that Town will look for a better performance.
