NORMANTON ON SOAR MEN’S ASSOCIATION. On Monday 27th January, NOSMA will be holding a quiz at the King’s Head in Sutton Bonington.

The evening includes a fish ‘n chip supper and transport on the Soar Valley Bus from Normanton is included all for the sum of £7 per person. We need to know in advance who wishes to attend and wishes to travel on the bus and have supper at the pub.

QUIET SPACES AT ST JAMES’. Please join us for a Taizé-style service at the beautiful church of St. James, Normanton on Soar on Tuesday 28th January at 6.30 pm led by Sue Archbold.

This is a quiet contemplative service with lovely Taizé music, readings and prayers and all are welcome.

PARISH COUNCIL - The following are extracts of interest from the minutes of the Normanton on Soar Parish Council meeting held on 5th December 2019.

Noticeboard. The new noticeboard has been erected with thanks to Cllr Andy Brown’s donation.

Tree planting scheme. Trees have been purchased and are ready to be planted.

VE Day celebrations. Plans are progressing well, and Sutton Bonington Parish Council are now involved. The schools are being contacted in the hope they will put some sort of display on in the afternoon for OAPs.

Councillor Andy Brown reported:

• There were 520 localised flood reports which included 400 properties suffering internal water damage and these were a priority.

• Damage to the new surface on Far Lane from flooding has has been logged.

• Severn Trent Water are contracting most of their work out to sub-contractors which is causing a delay in work on Main Street. Cllr Sue Ponting requested a letter go to each household explaining the difficulties etc – agreed.
