Man dies in A453 accident

A PASSENGER has died following a road traffic collision in Castle Donington.

It happened at around 10.40pm on Tuesday, January 21, on the A453 at the junction for the entrance to East Midlands Airport and involved a black Peugeot 207 and a blue Man Tipper truck.

The passenger, a man in his twenties, in the Peugeot sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Peugeot was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham and was in a stable condition.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The road was closed for a number of hours while officers responded at the scene and officers would like to thank motorists for their patience during this period.

Detective Constable Louise McMahon, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit, said: “At the time of the collision, the Peugeot was travelling along the A453 away from the direction of the M1 motorway and the truck was travelling eastbound in the opposite direction.

“I am keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand to get in touch. Alternativ­ely, anyone with dash cam footage is also encouraged to contact us.”
