Free conference for groups to combat cybercrime

-

VOLUNTARY groups, charities and not-for-profit organisations in Charnwood are being invited to a free conference entitled Protecting Your Charity from Cybercrime and Fraud.

Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner Lord Willy Bach and the Leicestershire Police Cybercrime Team are inviting up to two members of each organisation to a one-day free conference at the Leicestershire Police Force Headquarters in Enderby on Thursday, February 6.

Cyber Protect Officer Sam Hancock said: “This is a great opportunity to get free advice and gain first-hand experience of how to stop cyber criminals from attacking and disrupting your organisation.

“Sometimes it’s easy to assume that charities won’t get hit or too ‘nice’ to be targeted by cyber criminals, but not many of us know just how easy it is for a fraudulent email with an attached invoice is to get through the system, how difficult it is to be truly data secure, and how damaging it is to find your email system or website unexpectedly offline.”

The conference will cover the current risks facing charities in the digital world including real life examples; in real time how cyber criminals operate – a live ‘hack’ demo; how to cyber protect yourself at home and in the workplace; and why incident management is important to your organisation.
