Car somersaults into farmhouse
MOTORISTS were warned to take extra care after a car ‘somersaulted’ into a farmhouse during foggy weather.
The crash happened at 5.50am on Thursday on Melton Road in Barrow-upon-Soar during heavy fog.
Two fire crews, the police and the ambulance service attended but the female driver had only slight injuries caused by her seatbelt.
“She was a very lucky lady,” crew manager Rich Gilby said.
“The car had somersaulted into the building, causing a crack to the porch on the farmhouse but she managed to get herself out of the vehicle.
“It was very foggy and that most definitely could have been a factor.”
The firefighters made sure the vehicle was safe for recovery and that the building was structurally sound.
Mr Gilby said the damage was not serious enough to require a building inspector to be called in.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service sent out a tweet about the crash at about 6.10am, adding in another tweet 10 minutes later: “Reports are it’s like pea soup out there. Drive safe in foggy conditions. Headlights on and reduce your speed.#drivesafe.”
