LADIES 2ND XI 6

LOUGHBOROUGH Town 3rd XI went into the game against their clubs’ 2nd XI team after a loss the previous week.. knowing it would be a challenging game as the 2nd XI are fighting for promotion.

Town 3rd XI worked together well from the first whistle holding a well drilled 2nd XI team at bay.

However, at the 20 minute mark, the 2nd XI finally broke through the defensive wall of Iris Broekhuijzen and Vicky Ashenden to score the opening goal.

The defensive team with man of the match goalie Kate Horrigan continued to hold together but the constant barrage from the 2nd XI resulted in constant pressure (and several short corners).

Despite some amazing saves from keeper Horrigan, the 2nd XI worked well moving the ball around the pitch and pressing the D.

The first half ended with the 3rd XI going into half time at 3-0 down.

The second half was similar to the first half as the 2nd XI continued to put pressure on the back, though the 3rd XI worked well together to try and stop them adding to their lead.

There were opportunities for the 3rd XI to get on the scoreboard via a short corner which wasn’t successfully put away.

The other great chance to score after captain Dalby had made a serging run down the left side, where she fired the ball across the face of goal but usually reliable finisher Rose couldn’t get the vital touch to send the ball across the goal line into the empty net.

The 2nd XI capitalised on chances and were able to score a few more goals before the final whistle to take the final goal tally to six.

Despite the 6-0 loss, Town 3rd XI remain positive and optimistic about their chances to remain in the league, as if they keep playing like this results will come their way.
