LOUGHBOROUGH Town’s 1st XI hosted mid table Leek Men’s 1st with Town looking to keep their place in the top four.

In the first half of the match Town dominated possession having long passages of play keeping Leek within their own half. Town had early success breaking Leek’s press down by playing long balls from the back catching Leek off guard.

Unfortunately Town had trouble converting with some goal line stops coming from the visiting side. This would be about as exciting as the game would get chances wise.

Coming into halftime Town were confident as they had dominated for most of the first half barely letting Leek into their D.

The second half became scrappier as time went on with tensions rising between both sides and the umpires.

Leek had more chances in the second half however were stopped in their tracks by two excellent goal line clearances from eventual man of the match Ian Johnston saving Town from defeat.

As Town were pushing for a goal umpiring decisions went against them causing Town to be down to ten men for a majority of the time left in the game.

Town had some good possession in the opposition half near the end of the game but were unable to convert. This performance was one of the better ones of the season but unfortunately Town could not convert their excellent play into goals.

This result leaves Town still in fourth place; with next week’s game against sixth placed Stourport a big one, as they are only two points behind Town.
