Loughborough Foxes fightback to draw thriller

-

FAWPL NORTHERN DIVISION LOUGHBOROUGH FOXES 3 WEST BROMWICH ALBION 3

LOUGHBOROUGH Foxes staged a great fightback to earn a share of the spoils in a dramatic match which saw all six goals scored in the opening 45 minutes.

West Brom went 1-0 up after five minutes when Keeley Davies scored past Alex Stephens in the Foxes goal and doubled their lead on 11 minutes when Bethan Jewitt finished a great run by beating the Foxes keeper at the near post.

When Stephens inadvertently put the ball into her own net just two minutes later to put West Brom 3-0 up it looked like the three points were heading back to the West Midlands but the Foxes had other ideas.

Becky McGrother got a goal back on 22 minutes when she chipped the keeper and Grace Stanley made it 3-2 on 34 minutes after great work in the area.

In first half stoppage time the fightback was complete as Grace Stanley grabbed her second goal of the game slotting home past Kinnerley in the West Brom goal to make it 3-3.

After the break Stanley almost claimed her hattrick in the second period when she saw a longrange effort hit the bar and then she fired over after 73 minutes.

West Brom thought they had grabbed the winner in the dying moments when Leigh Dugmore bundled the ball home but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The point sees Loughborough Foxes in seventh place in the Northern Premier Division but having played several more games than some of the teams below them.
