Chadwick steering Draycott Dinkies towards promotion in the Loughborough table tennis league

-

DRAYCOTT DINKIES are in a strong position to gain promotion from a closely contested third flight in the Loughborough and District Table Tennis League.

Led by Paul Chadwick, who has a 100 per cent record from his 10 singles, Dinkies have triumphed in eight and lost two of their matches so far as the second half of the league campaign resumes this week.

Stephen Campion has also been in good form with a 75 per cent success rate from 16 sets.

It is anyone’s guess who will fill the other spot in the top two however with four sides currently in realistic contention.

Leading the way are Students D as unbeaten Chen Ziqian has been well supported by both Ika Okoroafor and Jordan Tweed. They have won six out of their first ten matches and lie seven points adrift of Dinkies.

They did, however, suffer a setback in their last outing when Kevin Edwards and Barry Robinson won two apiece for Goons as they turned the table upside down with a 5-1 success.

That means they can now be overhauled by Charnwood Choppers who are just a point adrift with a crucial game in hand.

Eric Baker and Tony Cook have both been in steady form all season with Max Cherry living up to his name when called upon.

Eric and Tony won one each in their latest win – an important one over club mates and fourth placed

Charnwood Drivers. Paul Ducksbury was man of the match with two for Drivers who slipped to four points behind Choppers having played one match more.

The other side still with plenty to play for at the right end of the table are Unicorn Dippers who need five points from their game in hand to catch Drivers.

Paul Chung has been their most consistent player so far with a 70 per cent record.
