Cannabis discovery after bus crashes into house

Plants found in home during search for possible injured

- ALAN THOMPSON

POLICE checking the safety of occupants inside a house badly damaged after a bus crashed into it late on Saturday night have begun an investigation after cannabis plants were found growing inside the property. Officers checked the home, at the junction of the A6 Derby Road and Alan Moss Road in Loughborough, following the collision, shortly before 11pm to make sure no-one inside had been hurt. After forcing entry, in case anyone had been knocked unconscious by the impact, officers instead found cannabis plants growing inside. A scenes of crime forensic investigation vehicle was parked in the garden on Sunday, with a police officer in a nearby car. Police are also continuing enquiries into the three-vehicle collision at the busy junction of Derby Road, Alan Moss Road and Belton Road. The single-decker bus operated by Kinch Bus/Trent Barton ended up embedded in the front bay window of the severely damaged rented semi-detached property. One casualty was initially reported trapped inside the bus. Paramedics treated one person at the scene. Police were called to the scene following a report that a bus had collided with a house. Two cars - a blue Ford and a black Vauxhall Vectra - were also reported to have been involved in the collision. It was reported that the driver of one of the cars had left the scene prior to police arriving. No life-changing or lifethreatening injuries were reported. One local resident said: “I heard the sound of tyres screeching, then a bang and a lot of police sirens. “The there very police got quickly.” Another said: “I saw one person put on a trolley and put in the back of an ambulance.” A neighbour said: “I know the owner and the property is rented out. “I don’t think anyone was inside when the bus crashed into it.

“All I saw was a lot of police lights.” Another local resident said: “I’m not surprised, there are a lot of incidents at those traffic lights.” A police spokesman said: “Officers knocked on the door of the property to check the welfare of the occupants. “When no answer was received, entry was forced and the property was found to be unoccupied. “A number of cannabis plants were found inside.” Sergeant Lee Taylor, who is based at Loughborough police station, said: “Our enquiries into the incident are very much ongoing. “We would ask anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw any of the vehicles beforehand, to get in touch. “We would also like to speak to anyone who was driving in Derby Road and has a dashcam in their vehicle.”

As the Echo went to press, no arrests had been made. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 717 of 25 January.
