Tribute to Elizabeth Steven, who helped so many
ELIZABETH Steven BEM has passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Elizabeth moved to the area from Devon in 1985 to live near her son who was a police officer in Loughborough.
Throughout her time in the Thorpe Acre area she committed a lot of time and effort to all sorts of charities and organisations from Charnwood Listeners to Helping the Romanian children with shoe boxes at Christmas organising 60 plus boxes to be sent.
She worked as a school secretary at the Kingsbridge upper school, Kingsbridge, Devon, before moving to Loughborough.
All her life she dedicated to helping various charities and she was recognised for all the work she had done in the communities of Loughborough and Kingsbridge in the Queen’s New Year’s honours list of 2015 where she was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) and subsequently attended Buckingham Palace.
Then, in 2016, she was presented with the last Queen’s Maundy Money at Leicester Cathedral.
Her funeral will be held at Loughborough crematorium on February 10, at 12.30pm. All friends welcome, followed by a short celebration service at Thorpe Acre Church and some light refreshments.
Her son Mike told the Echo: “Elizabeth would love as many of you as possible to come and help celebrate her life and, at the same time as I am sure you would know is that no flowers or cards, just a donation on the day to I.N.F which is the international Nepal Foundation that helps the people of Nepal which Elizabeth has helped for more than 30 years.
“Elizabeth loved her life in Loughborough and wanted to make sure that all her friends and associates were informed of her passing.”
Elizabeth was a devoted wife to Ernest and wonderful mother to John, Ronnie and Mike and a sixtime grandmother and more recently, became a great grandmother for the sixth time.
