UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE

PREMIER DIVISION. SHEPSHED DYNAMO 0 RUGBY TOWN 1 SHEPSHED Dynamo suffered their first home league defeat of the season on Saturday, losing 1-0 to Rugby Town and dropping to fourth position in the Uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division.

Shepshed made one change from Tuesday’s victory against Cogenhoe United with Reiff Armstrong in for Lewis White.

In an even contest chances were at a premium in blustery conditions. Shepshed kicking against the wind had the first effort but Matt Melbourne’s tame effort was straight at Matt Hill in the Rugby goal. Town then had their first chance on three minutes, Ryan Seal’s effort saved by Matty White.

Reece Morris then saw his effort go wide on seven minutes and combined well with Melbourne a minute later but was thwarted by a resilient Rugby defence.

In an end to end game Seal was off target on 11 minutes and Jordan Wakeling made a vital block for a corner a minute later.

It was then the turn of Dynamo to chance their arm Melbourne off target on 17 minutes and it wasn’t until the 34th minute until the next chance was to prevail Morris’s effort deflected wide.

Rugby ended the half strongly Matty White doing well to tip over the crossbar from Seal on 39 minutes and on 43 minutes Danico Johnson went close for the visitors.

Shepshed were hoping to use the wind to their advantage in the second half but it didn’t pan out as they expected when Rugby took the lead on 52 minutes when James Hancocks curled a shot past Matty White into the bottom right hand corner.

Although Shepshed pressed for an equaliser chances were at a premium there on after Hurst had a further effort blocked on 67 minutes and Melbourne header although on target was straight at Hill.

Shepshed’s best chance fell in the 93rd minute Jordan Wilson on as substitute with a free header from a corner was unable to find the target and it sailed over the crossbar at The Butthole Lane end.

Rugby had one final chance as the game went deep into injury time but Johnson was unable to find the target.
