CALLING all Loughborough women!

Loughborough parish priest, the Rev Wendy Dalrymple is inviting local women, who live or work in and around the town, to get involved in a project to sing and record a song, for release on this year’s International Women’s Day, March 8.

The recording is set to take place at the town’s All Saints parish church in Steeple Row, on Thursday, February 27.

The song will be a Loughborough based version of TwentyfirstWoman, which was a ground-breaking musical project for International Women’s Day

2019.

The gospel-style song for women’s voices and band was composed by Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, with lyrics inspired by Oprah Winfrey’s famous Golden Globes acceptance speech.

It was originally recorded at Abbey Road Studios by stars of London’s West End, singers from Hollywood film soundtracks and an all-female band of top London session musicians.

Inspired by the 2019 project, Rev Dalrymple is keen to showcase the talent of local Loughborough women too.

She said: “Since moving to Loughborough nearly five years ago I have met and worked with some amazing women from all walks of life so when I saw a recording of the song ‘TwentyfirstWoman’ I thought we could do just a good job of that here too!

“The idea is to celebrate the diversity of professions and roles that women have and encourage the next generation.”

Under the expert conducting of Emma Trounson, director of music at All Saints Parish Church, women are invited to come along and be part of a massed choir where enthusiasm will make up for any short comings in singing!

Emma says ‘no previous experience or music reading skills required.’

Both women are passionate about the empowering and life affirming experience that singing with a group can bring and hope this will prove to be really positive experience for all involved.

In the words of the song they are doing this in the hope that “every girl can grow up to be just who she wants to be.”

Participants are invited, if they are able, to make a donation of £10 to help cover costs and any excess will be donated to a local women’s refuge charity.

The next rehearsal is on Sunday, February 16, from 2pm - 3.30pm at All Saints.

The song recording is on Thursday, February 27, from 6.30pm - 8.30pm, also at All Saints in Steeple Row.
