Chesterton House putting in the miles for hospital
WHEN the staff of the Loughborough Chesterton House Group invited speaker Anthony Bennett to their annual team day earlier this year, little did they know that it would lead to a challenge to complete a collective total of 10,000 miles to raise money for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital (GOSH) in London.
Jenny Jervis, marketing manager at Chesterton House, said: “Anthony described his ordeal as a teenager when his heart stopped not once but twelve times as the result of a severe infection.
“He owes his life to the Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and now spends his time spreading the word about the life-changing work that they do for children and young people.
Our whole team of 62 people were so inspired by Anthony’s talk that they pledged to raise money throughout 2020 for the GOSH charity to help support their work and research.
“To support the charity, Chesterton
House staff are aiming to walk, run, row, cycle, or swim to reach a collective total of 10,000 miles this summer.”
So far staff have been running, walking and cycling not only around the Loughborough area, but in places as diverse as Greece, Romania, Mablethorpe and the Trent & Mersey Canal as they keep up the challenge whilst on holiday or business.
“We’re aiming to raise at least £1 for every mile covered,” said Jenny.
“It would be wonderful to be able to support Great Ormond Street with a £10,000 donation as a result of our efforts.”
