Police tactical pursuit closes M1 junction 23
POLICE have revealed why two lanes of the M1 were closed for an hour last Wednesday (August 19).
Nottinghamshire Police undertook a tactical pursuit of a vehicle yesterday, which took them from J29, the Heath Interchange, of the M1 all the way to J23 for Shepshed - where the chase came to a dramatic conclusion.
Officers were called to reports that three men had broken into a house in Ashdown Grove in Bingham, Nottinghamshire at 11.42pm on Tuesday August 18. They had attempted to take a car but were disturbed by the occupant and left in another vehicle.
A suspicious car was identified and it was tracked to Junction 29 on the M1.
Nottinghamshire Police’s Operational Support team attended and pursued the vehicle south into Leicestershire near to Junction 23 where they successfully brought it to a standstill using tactical pursuit and containment tactics - a boxing-in manoeuvre.
Two lanes of the M1 were shut during this time.
Four men, aged 22, 23, 23 and 32 were arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Detective Gary Hewson from Nottinghamshire Police’s burglary team said: “Some great work has been carried out by various teams at Nottinghamshire Police which resulted in the arrest of four men.
“The response team acted quickly to carry out enquiries and gather evidence which located a vehicle whilst Operational Support carried out the pursuit and brought it to a safe conclusion.
“My team will now continue with the investigation and gather all the available evidence in relation to this case.”
The men have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
