Rothley Park plays host to first county girls’ tournament

-

THE first county girls’ tournament of the year came when Victoria Mayfield held her Captain’s Day at her home club, Rothley Park GC.

It was a big success, with 20 girls from clubs throughout the county taking part.

County junior organiser Anita Higginson (Kibworth), the immediate past county president, said: “We were delighted to see the girls back together again after the long, enforced break due to the coronavarius and everyone was excited that this tournament could go ahead.

“Several of the girls cut their handicaps through their play on the day.

“The course was in great condition and there were a number of awards. Victoria’s mother Joanne, also a Rothley Park member and the current county women’s captain was there to support her and all the other girls, too. So it was a happy and a successful occasion for us all.”

Grace Hubbard (Willesley Park) won the trophy when she amassed 39pts to win the 18-hole singles. Megan White (Cosby) was the runner-up on 38pts after she tied on the mark with Lila Bisset (Lutterworth).

Eleanor Parkinson (Willesley Park) shot a round of 74 to win the scratch prize, for which a new trophy was awarded.

Harriet Oulds was the nine-hole winner on 17pts, with her Cosby GC clubmate, Eddie Spiers, second on 16pts.

Holly Waterfield (Lutterworth) won a special prize for the longest drive by the 18-hole competitors, while Poppy Burbage, a new member from Rothley Park, was the nine-hole long-drive winner.
