LOUGHBOROUGH Town Swimming Club has launched a crowdfunding appeal to help raise funds to ensure the club can survive the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Club secretary Justin Palfrey revealed that members have been unable to train since March and the lockdown had forced them to cancel its annual galas which are big fund-raisers for the group.

“The club has had to cease all operations since March and it may take some time to get back to the training level we were before Covid-19.

“Our funds have been placed under considerable strain because we decided to suspend and reduce training fees as soon as it started and we had to cancel our annual Galas this year which are our main fundraising events.

“Whilst the committee has always maintained secure financial planning, the severity and length of the pandemic means that we must look at ways in which we keep the club intact and facilitate a safe return to full normality once all our local pools re-open.”

He said that during lockdown many coaches had been taking courses and updating their skills and the club had kept in touch with members with regular updates.

The club is trying to raise £2,500 with its crowdfunder and to date the figure is currently £680.

For every donation made people will receive a free entry into a competition to win Boris the bear, one of the club’s regular supporters at galas.
