LOUGHBOROUGH charity Living Without Abuse (LWA) has recently achieved the Trusted Charity Mark Level 2 award recognising the excellent work it does as a third sector organisation in Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland.

LWA support more than 2,000 men, women and children who are, or have been, affected by domestic abuse or sexual violence.

Debbie Hughes, LWA chief executive, said: “We’ve been working on getting to Level 2 for the past year. We provided hundreds of pieces of evidence, along with two days of interviewing so a big thank you to everyone who was involved in secure this mark!

“It can be difficult to demonstrate how hard our staff and volunteers work and the great work they do so this goes a small way to evidencing that.”

Trusted Charity is part of the National Council for Voluntary

Organisations (NCVO) and is the only UK quality standard designed to help third sector organisations operate more effectively and efficiently.

LWA was assessed against the 11 standards of effective practice in Trusted Charity, including in governance, leadership and management, managing staff and volunteers and managing money, and proved to meet all standards.

Nick Snow, Trusted Charity programme manager, NCVO said: “We are delighted for the trustees, staff and volunteers of Living Without Abuse that they have achieved the Trusted Charity Mark Level 2.

“We know that organisations using the Trusted Charity standard benefit by having better governance, better systems and procedures and better quality of services for their users.

“It is great that the community of Trusted Charity users in England is growing”.

After a challenging year, those at LWA are looking forward to re-starting their faceto-face support programmes and hosting their fund-raising events.

Their Winter Ball on November 28 is going to be the headline event for the worldwide 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Abuse (November 25 – December 10). Tickets are on sale now.
