New educational provider for specialist college is named
A SPECIALIST college which provides support for young people with visual impairment and other disabilities is to be run by national disability charity Sense from this month.
The Loughborough college’s current owner, RNIB, the national sight loss charity, announced in November it was looking for a new provider.
The college will become known as Sense College Loughborough and will continue to offer the same extensive range of programmes and courses to students.
Nick Apetroaie, RNIB director of care, education and safeguarding, said: “We’re pleased to announce Sense will become the new provider of the college.
“Sense has extensive experience in providing educational services to people with sight loss and other disabilities and we’ll be working closely with them to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible for students and colleagues.
“As we make changes in our organisation to support more people with sight loss throughout the UK, now is the right time to hand over the college to an organisation with more specialist education experience.
“We’re proud of the excellent work the college has delivered over the decades and are confident Sense will continue to provide excellent education and support to all college students.”
Sense chief executive, Richard Kramer, said: “It is a high-quality and prestigious college with outstanding staff and wonderful students, and we are delighted that it will join Sense and the wider Sense College network.
“The move will consolidate our own position as a leading provider of college services, offering specialist educational provision for young people with a wide range of disabilities, supporting them to meet their aspirations and hopes. We look forward to working with RNIB to ensure we deliver a smooth transition.”
