CHILDREN’S SOCIETY COLLECTION BOXES 2020. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to St James’ 2020 collection box donation for the Children’s Society.

We have raised £544.40. This is £200 more than last year and partly because in this ‘cashless’ Covid year, people have put paper money into their boxes to make up for their shortage of coins, which is very generous. Our Children’s Society regional manager writes as follows:- “I hope that however you have been supporting us you realise just how much you’re doing for young people who are struggling right now. Thanks to you, we are able to stay in touch with children isolated by the lockdown, to let them know things will be okay. We are able to get food through to families who suddenly find themselves with no source of income. We have been able to make sure the most at-risk children could stay safe. That’s the difference you’re making and it’s hard to overstate how much everyone here appreciates what you do.”

The scheme works with those involved putting any loose change into their money boxes, which is collected and donated by a coordinator each year. It’s such a simple idea and every little helps. We would love to hear from anybody interested in getting involved.

The total UK box network raised over £1.4 million last year but with a decline in the number of box holders, they urgently need us to expand our networks where we can. NORMANTON ON SOAR COMMUNITY SHOP. Under the new COVID-19 regulations, The Normanton on Soar Community Shop is closed until 2nd December or until official rules change. We are urgently looking for more volunteers for when we reopen and would appreciate any help that can be offered to ensure that we are able to keep the shop going to help the community. To get involved, please contact Brian (07785 926883).

If you’d like to join this group, please email sue. archbold@btinternet.com. Our next Taizé-style service was to have been held on Tuesday 24th November but this will now be rescheduled to a later date.
