Attractive window displays undoubtedly not only have a positive effect on footfall but also contribute to the reputation of our area

The search is on for the best decorated festive window in Loughborough.

This year’s Best Dressed Window competition has been launched by Jane Hunt, the town’s MP, and the Loughborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce, aiming to celebrate independent traders in the area. Businesses are asked to decorate their windows in a festive theme and to make them as bright and colourful as possible.

Ms Hunt said: “This year has been particularly difficult for independent traders and small businesses, so we are as motivated as ever to give them a boost through these difficult times.

“They are the lifeblood of our communities; the backbone of our high streets and they are what makes our towns and villages distinctive.

“Having town and village centres full of attractive window displays undoubtedly not only have a positive effect on footfall but also contribute to the reputation of our area increasingly becoming a destination location for shoppers.

The last time the contest was held, the winner was the Emporium in Ward’s End. The competition did not take place last year because of the General Election.

Dermot Breen, from the chamber of commerce, said: “I am pleased that the chamber is teaming up with the Jane Hunt to bring back the Best Dressed Window competition this year.

“I hope this will bring some muchneeded joy to the Christmas shopping season.”

Open to all independent traders locally, the competition will be judged by a local panel on Small Business Saturday, on December 5.

The winner will be revealed shortly afterwards and will receive their trophy. Register your entry by emailing a photo to admin@loughboroughchamber.co.uk .

Register before December 5 to be included.
