Flytipper warning after ‘disgusting’ pile of rubbish is dumped near cemetery

-

A “DISGUSTING” pile of rubbish has been dumped by fly-tippers near Mountsorrel Cemetery.

Officials from Charnwood Borough Council went out to inspect the mess on Friday, November 27, which included a chair, suitcase, wooden frame, rug and several bags of rubbish.

The items were cleared up on Monday, November 30.

There was a post about the incident on the Spotted: Mountsorrel Facebook page.

One person commented: “This is disgusting and distrustful...can’t believe people actually do this.

“Please everyone be aware of the scammers and check that you are paying for reliable and honest services.”

A spokeswoman for the borough council said: “We are continuing to carry out investigations to identify the fly-tippers.

“Fly-tipping is unacceptable and a criminal offence. We would encourage people to be vigilant and if they see anyone they believe to be dumping rubbish illegally, then to note the time, date, descriptions of individuals and registration numbers of any vehicles that may be involved.

“If we have evidence, we can prosecute people in court with the potential of an unlimited fine and up to five years in prison or issue fixed penalty notices.

“People should also remember that it is the individual’s responsibility to ensure their waste is disposed of correctly, even if someone clears the rubbish on their behalf and then fly-tips it illegally.

“If the rubbish can be traced back to the original owner, it will be them who could end up with a fine or in court.”

If you see an instance on fly-tipping in Charnwood, you can report it on the borough council website or by calling Loughborough 634564.
