UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION QUORN AFC 4 LUTTERWORTH TOWN 1

THE FOXHUNTERS returned to their fortress and they faced Lutterworth Town at Farley Way Stadium on Saturday Afternoon.

After a disappointing first league loss of the season last weekend against Harborough Town, it was important for Quorn to get a reaction from their players and to prove they are serious about pushing for promotion this season.

Quorn will be without club captain Leavi Oshungbure for the next few games following his sending off against Harborough and manager Cleveland Taylor wasted no time in bringing in a replacement and Ilkeston Town midfielder James Cullingworth joined Quotn late on Friday evening on a short-term deal.

Quorn also welcomed back Jack Duffy – a club and fan favourite who has been playing recently at Stamford AFC.

Both sides started well and got some great shots in to test both sets of keepers. It was Quorn who has the clearest first opportunity when lightning quick winger Tawanda Mangondoza hit a peach of a shot from outside the Lutterworth penalty box and the result was a almighty ping against the crossbar.

In what was a very even half, ut was Lutterworth who struck the goal net first as a good team move allowed Tyers to hit a low shot into the left hand corner on 26 minutes.

Quorn remained calm and levelled the scores on 39 minutes through Tawanda Mangondoza and that was the score at the break.

After the restart it did not take long for Quorn to take advantage from the half-time team talk by Cleveland and Neil as Jack Duffy muscled his way into play with the ball bouncing around the Lutterworth defensive area he hit a powerful volley into the Lutterworth Town net in the 47th minute to put Quorn 2-1 ahead.

Quorn didn’t let off the gas - incredible work by the midfield. the wing duo of Brandon Fox and Tawanda Mangondoza caused so many problems for Lutterworth that they didn’t know how to counteract the pair.

Equal credit must go to captain Nathan Dale and debutant James Cullingworth who provided much steel and determination to push the side up the pitch as often as possible.

Quorn talisman Stephen Hart also showed the class he possesses when he had two assists and a worldie goal disallowed in the second Half.

In the 58th minute he did do when he does best, spinning Two Lutterworth Town players on a sixpence and hitting an accurate shot across the left hand side of the goal to make it 3-1 to Quorn.

The game was done and dusted but Quorn added a fourth with the last action of the game. Brandon Fox skipped past three defenders and the Lutterworth Town goalkeeper Warren Butlin to place the ball with style into the net.

A fantastic three points and an early Christmas present to put Quorn in fourth in the UCL Premier Division Table, with a game in hand over the three teams above them and only three points separating them.

Quorn’s next game couldn’t be more important and anticipated at home to Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday, January 2, 2021 in the first league game of 2021.
