Online quiz helps in charity’s battle to find an answer to Alex’s Wish

-

A LOUGHBOROUGH charity has received a £707 donation from an online quiz, organised by local company, Vehicle Consulting.

The company became aware of Alex’s Wish after Jayne Stephenson, of Vehicle Consulting, joined a networking group with the charity’s founder, Emma Hallam.

After Emma, who is Alex’s mum, gave a ten-minute presentation about the charity, Jayne was driven to tears.

Alex has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disease that causes muscle weakness and wasting.

Children born with DMD have a fault, known as a mutation, on their dystrophin gene.

The life-limiting disease mainly affects boys and currently has few treatments and no cure.

Jayne said: “I was, and continue to be, amazed at how hard Emma and her team work and her positivity and drive.

“I’ve run a quiz every Christmas for the last two years for different charities.

“I decided to run the one I had lined up early as I felt people might appreciate having something to do during lockdown.”

She says the response was fantastic, and many people donated despite not taking part in the quiz.

Her friends bought quizzes for their friends, who enjoyed them so much they also decided to contribute.

Jayne said: “The most heartwarming part was when all three winners donated their prize money back to Alex’s Wish. That was £100 in total, which was donated originally to the quiz by Vehicle Consulting.”

Emma Hallam thanked Jayne, the company and everyone who took part in the quiz for their kindness and generosity. She said the experience was humbling.

Emma said: “Lockdown has been hard for a lot of people. It’s incredible to know what people will do for others, and I’m so very, very grateful.”

Emma said: “Despite the challenging times we’re all going through, we keep pushing forward.

“Diseases like this don’t take a break and with every day that passes, boys become weaker and weaker.

“We’ve had to think on our feet, and react quickly as Covid-19 hit and lockdown took place.

“Our supporters have been amazing, and we’re still here and raising money to beat this cruel disease.”
